I'm excited to see google pushing web innovation. We are heading down this road. Remember HTML 1.0? Remember Web 2.0? Think about all the steps in between. People may scoff but I won't be surprised if Google Wave gets adapted. You know what's the best part? Google Wave is NOT proprietary. It doesn't sit on Google's servers nor is it owned exclusively by them. It's open source code that anyone can implement and work across all implementations. That's major.
posted about 9 months agoDepends on who you ask I suppose. Personally? I'll agree with legislature Ken Jacobsen (D) who stated "that Eyman uses the initiative and referendum system in an attempt to legislate without being held accountable to the voters for the results of his actions"

posted about 9 months agoIt's undeniable that businesses and governments will have to head toward green development -- The Chinese and the Europeans already are heading well in their way toward it -- it's only the US that refuses to see that it's in their best interest because we will have a growing market for greener business development -- in our homes, offices, etc. Would you rather those jobs go overseas and have us buy green products from others? Look at what Thomas Friedman has to say in the New York Times: The New Sputnik?
posted about 9 months agoI'm very disappointed that America didn't win for Chicago. For people who are so happy that we didn't get it because it was a slam against Obama -- for shame. Having the Olympics in America is a) patriotic and b) a major booster to the economy! we need as much good news as we can get.
At least, Rio scored it and South America has never hosted one before.
posted about 9 months agoHe was involved with his long-term girlfriend while the work affairs were going on? Relationship wise, who knows what's going on behind that closed door. According to CBS, it appears he didn't violate any workplace rules because there's nothing that says you can't date/or have affairs with coworkers, workplace colleagues, so it was consensual.
I bet this is alot more common place in America then most people think.
posted about 9 months agoI'm a bit taken back. Rush Limbaugh is scheduled to be a guest on Jay Leno' show. Read here at his transcript. Isn't he a bit extremist for mainstream America -- you know, does he have a new book or something to promote? Jay Leno's a nice guy but I'm curious to see how Rush will behave on the show.

Someone talked about best fried chicken in Seattle -- you must try Ezell's Fried Chicken. http://www.ezellschicken.com/
Or, if you want damn good Chinese food (and is open late in Seattle!) -- try Hing Loon. Chow fun noodles, also good chicken wings, and the salt/pepper chicken is to drive out there for.
I could die a happy man if these 2 places were my last (cheap) meal on Earth.

posted about 10 months agoThe person above me hits the concerns I have. The Viaduct Tunnel is aimed at heavy commuters and plans to reduce stress on local roadways (big rig trucks, delivery trucks, traffic from the port, etc). You see those big rigs all the time coming in and out of West Seattle -- heck, I've had my windshield cracked from a construction truck northbound on SR-99. I want to see predictions on traffic congestion with the tunnel lane reduction.
posted about 10 months agoI live in West Seattle and I regularly take the Alaskan to go to Fremont, Wallingford, etc. I'd be curious to know how the tunnel will affect how much easier/pain it will be to get around town. Any locals who've been to the town meetings or got any news reports around?
posted about 10 months agoLet's face it -- the Alaskan Viaduct needs to come down. The 2001 Nisqually Earthquake has proven that it wasn't a stable, safe highway structure to begin with. But is there a better solution then the Seattle Viaduct Tunnel? Will the costs -- in convenience and finances to Seattle residents -- outweigh the benefits? Does Seattle really have a good track record for big project construction or will this be a repeat of Boston's Big Dig project?
1. Let's face it - Washington lawmakers have already dedicated $2.4 billion in state gas–tax money to fund the tunnel. But what about cost overruns? How's that factored in? via Seattle Times Oxford University study stating that over 90 percent of transportation mega-projects go substantially over budget
2. Will it actually reduce traffic congestion? According to King5, critics say the bore tunnel would carry 20 percent less traffic and cannot be expanded.
On the bright note, at least the SR-99/Alaskan Tunnel will be in operation while the Viaduct Tunnel is in construction so we won't have MAJOR traffic issues ongoing.
What do you think?
