Post to SparkWord Party Affiliation

According to recent reports, even Sarah Palin might answer "yes" to the proposed question. Over the weekend, the soon-to-be-former Alaska governor announced that once she resigns, she won't be leaving the political world; she'll be campaigning for Republicans and independents and Democrats who hold similar beliefs on government, energy and defense.

She said, "I will go around the country on behalf of candidates who believe in the right things, regardless of their party label or affiliation. People are so tired of the partisan stuff — even my own son is not a Republican."

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee told Fox News that he hopes "she remains — let me be real clear — a part of the Republican Party. I'm a little concerned when I hear her say that she may sort of branch out and go third party or go independent. That would be a big mistake because we need to rebuild the Republican Party, not abandon it."

Um, it doesn't seem like Palin was all that effective in helping to rebuild the Republican Party.

Post to SparkWord Office browser version

With the addition of a web-based version of Microsoft Office 2010 and the ability to "share" projects and documents with other people, there's always a chance that someone's information will be able to be viewed by an unwanted third party, but Microsoft has focused on providing "enhanced security" particularly over the past couple of years, according to its SVP Chris Capossela. Of course, we don't really know how secure the new program is until we're able to use it.... but I think the new Office will be at least as secure as any other major online program/service, and I'm sure Microsoft is examining similar programs and working to avoid common security problems, such as the ones that Google Docs encountered with public access to supposedly protected photos and documents.

Post to SparkWord Joe Biden

Biden hasn't been as outwardly vocal so far during his time in office as, say, Dick Cheney, but I don't think that means he's sitting around wasting time. In a New York Times article, Obama spoke of Biden as someone "who does a bunch of things that don’t show up in the stat sheet,” Recently, he's discussed with the media the president's stimulus and healthcare plans, and the war in Afghanistan.

Post to SparkWord G.O.P

I agree with RedLetterDuke- Meghan McCain is an example of what the Republican Party needs right now. That's not to say that GOPers need to start supporting gay marriage or other liberal beliefs to become successful again, but they need to develp a more modern, forward-thinking approach to their stances on various issues.

Post to SparkWord military

Pentagon health experts are urging servicemen to put the cigarettes down - permanently. They're pushing for a phased-in tobacco ban over a period of up to 20 years that would affect the one-third of soldiers and Marines who smoke, and would reduce "$846 million in medical care and lost productivity." Is this a good idea? Everyone knows how much soldiers like to smoke; they need all the stress relief they can get. How would a no-smoking lifestyle affect their service?

Do you support a military smoking ban?

Post to SparkWord Racism

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) has written a letter to the club, urging that the children be allowed to return. Seriously, why would they even want to pay money to return to a place like that?

I might have to agree with the banks for once. This is an issue of personal responsibility. People, rich and poor, should be aware of their bank's policies and of their own financial situation.

Post to SparkWord The Obama girls

It's no secret that J. Crew is a favorite of Michelle Obama, but some media, particularly Politico, has criticized the fact that the company issued a press release announcing that Malia and Sasha wore the label's clothing during Obama's recent trip to Russia - complete a description of the clothes and the prices. Is the company invading the girls' privacy by using their clothing choices for advertising purposes or were there actions done in a reasonable manner?

Post to SparkWord Michael Jackson

I wonder how much money the city pulled in from all the visiting fans. Also, I wonder where the millions of dollars from ticket sales is going? That should help defray the cost a bit.

Post to SparkWord Federal Security

Lack of money did not make the guard in the photo fall asleep or let bombs go undetected. Those are careless, unprofessional, dangerous mistakes that should not be happening at the expense of the country and its federal employees.

I wouldn't call it a waste of money. Virtual gifts are supposed to be entertaining, and are just another creative way of letting people know you're thinking about them.

Post to SparkWord Redbox vs. Netflix

Redbox has a good shot because it's simple, quick and convenient. It seems like there are machines everywhere these days, and you can return the DVDs at any location. They also get new releases pretty quickly. Netflix should definitely be worried.
