Up! That's how my mom always used to do it and she was the best pizza maker I know. :)

They don't always go hand-in-hand, and if they don't, you're better off being single.

Post to SparkWord U.S. Stock Market Fall

The headlines are calling it "Market Chaos" this morning so I'm not exactly seeing any lights at the end of the tunnel yet.

They'll be mandated to live up to their commitments. Obama won't them off the hook! I'm with @blackdiamond in that I worry about the efficacy of the actual tools. With a spill this massive, it'll take a multi-pronged approach over time to make a dent. And even then the waters won't be fully healed.

Post to SparkWord Furminator

According to this blog post, cat & dog hair is being used in the Gulf clean-up efforts. Bizzare, I know, but check it out:

Who knew the Furminator could save the environment?!! :)

Post to SparkWord Fairness or Favouritism

@Sandra Wow. I just heard something similar from a fellow traveler on my recent overseas holiday. Her story: She is 22, from the UK, is not university educated, works in the service industry, and is furious with what she perceives to be too much leniency in UK immigration policiies. Specifically, she's angry that "all the stupid Poles" are taking jobs she wants. Yep, she really said that. Now, why on earth would I have a harder time hearing her argument than hearing yours? Oh yeah... because you had tact. Thank you for expressing your opinion in a mature, honest, thoughtful way. I will admit, though, that I don't fully understand your perspective. I don't believe our forefathers can--or should--protect us from people who can perform our jobs better than we can. If someone from a war-torn country wants to flee and find a better life, I certainly hope she/he has the opportunity to do just that. And if that puts your (or my traveling friend's) job in jeopardy, then it's time to sharpen your skills, go back to school, do whatever you can to show that you can offer more value to a position. Of COURSE companies will opt for paying the lower-wage worker, as long as the work still gets done.

Post to SparkWord Retail Trends

Consumer spending has been on the rise, so I'd say profitability is right around the corner and retailers should be flirting with the idea of taking more risks.

Post to SparkWord Home births

If your pregnancy is identified as potentially "high risk," you won't be allowed to have a home birth, but I have a friend who got around that rule. She's a hospital phobe and wanted to create a serene environment at home. Thankfully, everything went smoothly and everyone is healthy, but we were all terribly nervous. I think it's irresponsible & risky.

Post to SparkWord Google Buzz

I don't like that my e-mail contacts may be exposed to the public for searching, and I don't like that Google is trying to be Facebook. At least when we log onto Facebook, we know what we're getting into in terms of sharing and privacy -- it's a SOCIAL network. But hands off my email inbox!

Post to SparkWord Gays in the Military

Britain, Australia and Canada allow openly gay troops to serve, so why can't we? Getting this passed on Capitol Hill will be no small challenge, but it's time to get off our high horse and get rid of this discriminatory ban.

Post to SparkWord New York Times

Shouldn't they be focused on keeping the ad revenue flowing instead of placing that burden on readers? I certainly respect the quality of reporting at the Times, but as long as I have plenty of other free options, I'm not giving Murdoch my money.
