Post to SparkWord Digital Divide

Here's the article from today's PCMag online. I'm shocked that the number is so high, and the group that puzzles me most is the "digital distant." I know they tend to come from rural areas, but I simply can't imagine life without technology. For education, communication and job-seeking purposes, how do they manage without it?

Post to SparkWord Vancouver Olympics

I'm married to a Canadian, but I'm gonna reject the peer pressure to say hockey or curling and go with my gut: figure skating! It's so challenging, coordinated, and graceful. I also love to watch the ski jumpers because they're nutzos to do that.

Post to SparkWord Third-Hand Smoke

Yep, that nasty stale smoke smell might be more harmful than we thought. I just read an article about the threat of nicotine's lingering residue -- on surfaces of cars, carpets, clothes, etc. So, not only do we need to worry about the dangers of first- and second-hand smoke, but now we're screwed because of third-hand smoke as well? ...Over which we really have *no* control?! Awesome.

If it's truly "revolutionary," will you rush out and buy one?

Post to SparkWord Superbowl

I'm gonna make some delicious dips for my chips, have a microbrew or two, watch a few commercials, and call it a day well played. (No matter what happens in this game of which you speak.)

Post to SparkWord New York Times

It's official: In 2011, the New York Times will start charging you for full access to its articles via a digital paywall. See more here. So... will you pay up? Is this the answer to newspaper industry woes?

Post to SparkWord Google in China

It'd be risky and ballsy -- no doubt about it. But as the WSJ reported last week:

"For years, Western companies have accepted that business is done a certain way in China—agreeing to government interference that wouldn't be tolerated elsewhere, from stifling free speech to setting up Communist Party cells."

I know we have a complex relationship with China (to say the least), but as a fierce supporter of free speech, I've gotta side with the Big G on this one. Enough compromising of your principles. Be a role model and get out now.

Post to SparkWord Apple Tablet

I just heard someone call it "the iPhone on steroids." If so, I'm tempted to click: BUY! It looks incredibly slick and fast and awesome, but my hunch is that the price tag would make me barf or faint or both. Anyone know what they're asking for this?

Post to SparkWord Nexus One

Seems to me that the iPhone got as much pre-launch hype as the Nexus One AND as many post-launch complaints and skeptics... remember that? N1 may not be a revolutionary device, but from what I've read, it's super fast (thank you, Android 2.1), has great image quality, and actually allows users to choose their provider. That doesn't sound weak to me.
