Internet chatter says Palm launches the first volley against Apple by launching a few days against Apple's conference. Eh. For $200 with a mail-in rebate. Is that recession friendly? Will people buy this smartphone over the iPhone?
Well, service-wise, I think Sprint has a pretty competitive calling plan when you compare it against AT&T. Sprint's "Everything Plus" program cost $59.99/500 Anytime Minutes + Unlimited Text/Data. Couple that with the Palm Pre @ $199 and you're better off then AT&T. Plus, Sprint has a true 3G network that's proven to be faster. Can you hear me now, AT&T? Can you?
Anyways, the iPhone is a great device on a cruddy network.

Let's see how the Pre handles, OS-wise. It's a good looking device but I care most about what I can actually do with the device. Apple's iPhone 3.0 update is coming shortly after Pre's release and combined with it's massive collection of innovative games and apps, the competition has a lot of work cut out for it if they hope to get enough developer interest to catch up. iPhone 3.0 vs. Palm Pre 1.0.

Can Palm out-do the Dude himself, Steve Jobs? That's the ultimate question. Whatever Palm's OS is gonna be like -- it HAS to outdo what Blackberry, HTC, and Apple DO and better. Wow'em away. So far, the demos haven't allowed any reviewers to play around, only the demo models are allowed to handle it.
the iPhone wins. thanks for playing
