Offshore Drilling

President Obama has proposed clearing the way for offshore drilling to increase domestic energy production. Some argue offshore drilling will only increase offshore drilling. Should offshore drilling be a part of America's energy future?

Offshore drilling should absolutely be a part of our energy future, which is long overdue. Obama's proposal, however, is inadequate and extremely limited. Offshore drilling should also be expanded to other offshore areas as well as allowing more onshore oil and gas drilling. For too long, this country has been relying on foreign oil,and in many instances from countries that are unfriendly to the US.

We shouldn't be spending any more time, money or political capital on drilling for fossil fuels.  When will people get it?  Let's get serious about alternative energy.  Drilling off the east coast would barely yield enough fuel to support the US gas thirst for more than a few days a year.

yes. Though the pace should continue to be picked up in alternative energy research , fossile fuel use is not going away anytime soon. It would do our national security a favor by being more independent of foreign oil.
