Well I am running into the time when I will need to replace the cedar shake roof on my house.
What makes the most sense now?
I am considering the rubber that looks like shake, but then I also think about using solar shingles to generate some of my own electricity.
From what I've heard, the solar roofing option is undeniably expensive. We have a metal roof (all recyclable) with "cool roof" finishes and we've seen our energy bills decrease pretty significantly.
My folks have some friends who just bought a rubber roofing system, made from recycled tires. I thought it sounded ugly as hell at first, but they've actually got some really nice designs out there... good insulation and weather resistance, too.
