No, No, No! The left wing Times outfit is teetering on bankruptcy, in large part due to its lack of neutrality in its news reporting. It has been steadily losing subscribers for years and it's now among the least read major newspapers in the country. Its digital website will change nothing in the biased way it reports the news. If anything, those that might continue to subscribe to its print newspaper may decide to subscribe to its electronic format if the price is comparable. It going electronic and charging for the privilege should not change anything.

Absolutely!

There's HUGE value in good reporting and good editing. I don't want to read ranting, droning, blogs. (Well, OK, sometimes I do, but that's for a different purpose.) And with a billion news stories coming at me, I want someone to do a little filtering for me. And that's work worth paying for. So I am happy to pay for well-written, well-edited journalism--whether that's what the NYT offers is a different subject. I think the "metering" idea NYT has is, however, doomed in its apparent complexity.
