It seems there are so many children missing today. Some killed by loved ones, some killed by strangers, but many missing never to be found. Have we become such a perverse society? Is it greed, selling children to slavery? Why can't we find these kids? Maybe it's our lack of respect for everything including life itself. What do you think??
Tough question, @dartsaway, but certainly an critical one to ask...
I won't even pretend to have the answer, but I think that's the point: there is no single answer. Some cases seem to be freak accidents (stranger kidnappings) or isolated incidents (sexual offenders living in your neighborhood w/repeated offenses), while others are tied to family abuse and neglect (which have roots that are deep and complex and devastating). I wish we had more proactive community therapists who could offer free services (gov-funded) to families that aren't providing the support and love their children need.
People think human trafficking only happens in distant places. We have so much work to do right her in the U.S.:

We have not become a perverse society, but always have been. Human nature is full of base instincts and ugliness. At heart, we are still the beasts that roamed the Savvanah looking for meat and shelter, although we are the only species that kills its own kind for reasons other than food. And that's because we have brains more advanced and therefore capable of more twisted thinking.
