H1N1 Shot Availability

Our pediatrician keeps putting us off. Meanwhile our 7-month old doesn't have the shot. Are we bad parents for trusting the healthcare system?

Don't be so hard on yourselves - there's a nationwide shortage of the vaccine.  There may be drugstores in your area offering the shots, and infants will almost always be taken to the front of the line, so you might try that.

Only a few people I know with babies have been fortunate enough to receive the scarce vaccine. We're all in the same boat. Our health department assures us there WILL be enough for everyone. There's just not enough to go around--YET.

I check the CDC site every day to keep up on the latest news. You should visit it to see when the vaccine will be shipped to hospitals and clinics in your area.

It is very scarce, and high need cases tend to get preference, i.e. young children, pregnant women and caregivers to young children.

My kids just got the shot this last Saturday. Who knows if we'll ever be able to get the required booster in a month. My mom, who has a compromised immune system (post stem-cell transplant) isn't able to get the shot yet. Very frustrating.
