For years people talked about globalization, with the change in economy in the US more and more talk is happening about supporting local business. While no one wants to give up the diversity and advances gained from worldly exchange, is it necessary to buy from home? Do you support globalization? What about the 'Buy American' (or 'Buy whatever your local nationality is') movement?
I'm definitely leaning toward the "locavore" persuasion. It just makes sense to me to support my hometown economy while simultaneously decreasing the huge carbon footprint that shipping goods across the country/world, etc. causes.
Yes. I think that's totally possible if you live in a metropolitan area that supports home-grown businesses. If you lived in New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, LA, etc. you have a choice to buy your clothes at your neighborhood's department store or you could buy it from a local designer/store-owner.
